Week: “Jesus was praying.” What a powerful example for us! He knew this was the way to stay connected
to God the Father and handle all the demands being placed on Him. Jesus assures us if we put God first we will
receive and find whatever we need from His infinite goodness and wisdom. But, we must make the time to stop, listen
and seek God first in prayer. Make
prayer a daily part of your family routine. Brother Hubbard’s Cupboard Br.
Walt is coordinating the Food Pantry that serves the Central-Woodland
area. He is accepting donations of
food, money, and volunteers to assist in this effort. Please contact Br. Walt by phone at the friary or by mail at the
St. Paul address. The Pantry is open the
last two Tuesdays and Thursdays of each month from 10am to 1pm. Thanks for your prayerful support! Condolences To
Reggie Doniver on the passing of his father, Reginal who was buried this past
week. Please know of the prayers and sympathy of your church family in these
days. Southeast Interparish
Wellness Ministry in partnership with St.
Vincent Charity Hospital & Saint Luke’s Medical Center, is a group of
Healthcare Professionals and Lay Ministers who share in the healing ministry of
Jesus Christ. In Christian love and
commitment we serve our communities through prayer, health education, advocacy and counseling, in
order to promote health of body, mind and spirit. If you would like to participate in this ministry, or need any of
our services, please call one of
our coordinators: St. Catherine’s: Rose Thomas at 216-341-5542, Epiphany: Mary James at 216-561-2592, and St.
Cecilia’s: Sr. Rosella Holloman, CSA
at 216-921-3310. Parish Update From Fr. Bob The
letter requesting Bishop Pilla that we close has been sent and will receive
reply near the end of the month. In conversation with Bishop Pilla’s office, it
is his desire to come and pray with the parish as a parish community. Bishop
Pilla is not able to be with us on October 24, but wants to celebrate Mass with
the parishioners on Sunday, October 17, at 2pm here at HTSE. This mass will be just with the Bishop
and parishioners. The formal closing
and celebration of the parish will take place on October 24 with Bishop
Roger. In the meantime, there are a
number of things that need to be addressed with regard to questions that have
been put forth: Current
Parish Envelopes If you desire, please continue to use your HTSE
envelopes at the church where you will be going. This will help the parish staff there to get to know who is
coming, and can also allow me to follow up with folks who may have not yet made a decision about
where they will worship. Registration Forms From
the following parishes are available on the fellowship table to assist all in
this time of transition. Please feel
free to call the parish of your choice and speak to the pastor or someone on
the staff directly. If Fr. Bob may be
of any help to anyone in making a choice about a new church home, please feel
free to contact him at 216-431-8854. We
thank these communities for their openness and welcome: St. Adalbert St. Aloysius-St. Agatha St. Agnes- Our Lady of Fatima St. Cecilia St. Henry St.Catherine Christ the King Mass
Intentions: The Mass intentions that have been scheduled for HTSE
through the end of December, and unless otherwise requested by the donor, will
be transferred to St. Agnes-Our Lady of Fatima and celebrated on Sundays and
Weekdays as the church calendar permits.
Once that schedule is finalized, I will be able to contact families as
to the dates and times of the intentions. Parish
Finances: While we are still open (October 24 is the suggested
date for closing with Oktoberfest), bills, debts, and expenses are still the
responsibility of the parish. After the
closing date, all things become responsibility of the Diocese of
Cleveland. The offering at the Closing
Mass will go to the Holy Trinity-St. Edward Scholarship Fund for educational
needs of students from our church community. At that time, any sale of the property will go to
covering the roof debt. Anything left
will be decided by the Bishop. It will
be the task of the parish council to make some recommendation to the Bishop
what might be done with any left over proceeds from the disposal of the church
and rectory buildings. Religious
Artifacts As Father Jurcak noted last week, religious items such
as art and statues, altars, windows, etc., will be removed and stored by the
Diocese for use in future church buildings.
Some items may indeed go to other churches already in need of these
things, but that is to be determined. If you or your family donated any of these
items, and you would like them to go to a particular church or institution,
please place your name, address, phone #, DATE, the description of the item,
and the proposed location in a sealed envelope and give or mail to Father Bob
ASAP. These will be considered
according to the dates they are received.
Ultimately, it will be to the Bishop to decide where things will go. Planning
Committees Those who signed up to assist on the various planning
committees should seek out their chairperson and schedule a meeting date soon: Closing Mass: Doris St.Clair 216-581-3833 Dinner: George Erker 440-845-7751 Memory Book:
Nancy Minter 216-229-6083 Oktoberfest
Celebration We will gather Sunday, October 24 for the closing
celebration of Holy Trinity-St. Edward Church with Mass at 2pm followed by
dinner. There has been some discussion
on the committee as to the location of the dinner, either the Coast Guard Club
downtown or at Sterle’s Restaurant on East 55th and St. Clair. If you have an opinion on this matter,
please contact George Erker who is chairing this committee. The current price for that gathering is set
at $40.00. This includes the dinner, a
souvenir/memory book, some other mementos, as well as a small contribution to
the Holy Trinity-St. Edward Scholarship Fund.
This fund was begun by Ann Cowan and John Dokler to assist our youth
with Catholic education. The fund is
currently very small, but may be increased to be of service to children in need
of financial assistance, particularly if there are any proceeds from the sale
of the property. Contact for
Records If you are in need of baptismal, marriage, or other
records from HTSE, you may contact the Archives of the Diocese at 216-696-6525. If the records are after 1960 and before
October 25, 2004, you may contact Fr. Bob at SA/OLF at 216-391-1655. After October 25, all records will be in
care of the Diocesan Archives. Sick Calls,
Hospitals, and Deaths It may take some time for us all to adjust to a new
church home and make the decision to actually register. Please know that you may call on Fr. Bob for
any emergencies in this regard. Many of
the hospitals do have chaplains and communion ministers, but do not hesitate to
contact SA/OLF if you have special needs. Please let us continue to keep each other in prayer,
let us be attentive to the voice of God and the activity of the Holy Spirit,
and trust that the Providence of God which has brought us this far in Faith,
shall not fail us as we move forward in that Faith together. Call me if you have any questions or needs
at 216-431-8854 – I’ll still have a room at Saint Paul’s, or at 216-391-1655 at
St. Agnes/Our Lady of Fatima. Thank you all, for four wonderful and spirit-filled years
as your pastor. If I have caused anyone
pain or harm in my time with you, please know that it was not intentional and
yet I need to ask your forgiveness if it happened. To all who have worked so tirelessly for this community, please
know of my gratitude and that of the whole church. To those who have gone before us in these last years, to those
who have entered into nursing care and assisted living in these years, you are
the giants of faith on whose shoulders we stand, and we ask for your prayers from
earth and from heaven. I hope that we
might see one another from time to time as we join with the larger church to
celebrate our life of faith in Jesus. With every best wish and prayer for each
of you, I remain in the Lord, |
