MISSION STATEMENT

We, the Roman Catholic community of Saint Columbkille Parish,
situated in the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio,
having been fed and nourished by Word and Eucharist,
are committed to our Baptismal call to holiness.
Guided by the Holy Spirit,
we strive to live in accordance
with the words and actions of Jesus Christ
through liturgical prayer, outreach, spiritual formation,
academic education, and celebration.
Our community acknowledges and affirms
the diversity of gifts shared by its members,
and challenges one another as a people of God
to stewardship of time, talent, and treasure.
In this way, we give praise and glory to our God.

ABOUT SAINT COLUMBKILLE

Saint Columbkille, the patron of our parish, was born of a noble family in Donegal, Ireland, in the year 521, and was ordained a priest and monk in 546. When he was 42 years old, he was exiled from Ireland and sent to the territory known as Scotland with twelve companions. There he spent the next 34 years establishing churches and schools, and staffing them with many disciples who were attracted by his ardent penance, fervent prayer, sincere preaching, and deep confidence in God.

Columbkille spent much time copying the Scriptures and other manuscripts and writing poems. His great book, the Book of Kells, is a work of perfection with no peer in the world of ancient calligraphy. Columbkille died in 597 and is honored as the Patron of Scotland. Saint Columbkille’s feast day is celebrated on June 9th.

Archbishop Edward F. Hoban canonically erected Saint Columbkille Parish on Thursday, June 7, 1956. Currently, our parish numbers about 4,909 families.
