MISSION STATEMENT

St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church (Szent Erzsébet Római Katólikus Magyar Egyhásközség) is an ethnic parish serving the Hungarian (Magyar) Community of Cleveland.  Our parishioners represent those persons who have only recently arrived into the United States as well members whose ancestors reach back to our founding as the first Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in America in 1892.  Our parish is dedicated to strengthening the Catholic faith of our members which is entwined with the Hungarian culture dating to the founding of the Hungarian Nation-State by Saint István (Stephen) in the year 1000 A.D.

A theme of Luke’s Gospel is “table fellowship.”  That’s theological talk for the simple act of eating and drinking with people, as Jesus does in today’s Gospel account.  But Luke’s concern with dining has to do with who is present at the meals - not the menu or the table settings!  Luke recalls a story of a time when Jesus was a table guest of a leading Pharisees.  The Lord challenges his listeners - and his host - to allow others to take the seats of honor.  Saint Luke used this story to challenge the table fellowship of his own Christian communities, at their Eucharistic gatherings.  Let’s examine ourselves as we gather for Sunday Mass.  How do we treat one another? How welcoming are we to those who are different in status or wealth? Our positive response means we’re truly at home in the company of the Lord.

Keep the sick and frail in your prayers, especially, Irene Szlaninka, Barbara Krusoczky and Mihály Repas.  May our Gracious Healer grant them healing of mind and body and restore their strength and spirit to bring closer to healing.

Second collection today – Faith and Values Appeal for Education.  Please be generous in your support of our young people whose Catholic education provides them with a strong academic education surrounded by faith and values. All donor contributions are used for tuition assistance for families with documented financial need.  Families receive help from a special parish appeal taking place this weekend.  Please use the special envelopes provided for your gift.

Next Sunday - 55th Annual Hungarian Scout Festival on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 – German Central Park, 7863 York Road, Parma Ohio.  The events schedule is posted on bulletin board.

General information – after the closing of the other Hungarian churches, the substitute situation for our pastor when he is on vacation or out of town for a few days, has changed. In this case should you need a sick ministration (pastoral care) in an emergency situation, you may call the St. Andrew Abbey (Benedictine Monastery) at 216-721-5300.  Or in the late evening or nighttime (especially who lives in the suburbs) you could call the closest Catholic Church in your neighborhood.  In a hospital emergency situation there is pastoral care service available. For the Hungarian language service only one priest is available: Richard Bona who currently is an associate pastor at St. Albert the Great Church.

Congratulations to our newly registered parishioners, Renáta and Thomas Molnar, on the occasion of their marriage yesterday. May they be showered with abundant blessings and go forth with faith in their hearts and minds and when they need a helping hand they will find God is always there. May God bless and keep them in his love.

Szent Erzsébet Róm. Kat.

Adományukkal a katolikus iskolák szegényebb diákjainak a katolikus nevelését segítik.

Ha sürgős betegellátás adódna, magyar nyelvű szolgálatért Bona Richard atyát lehet hívni a St. Albert the Great (North Royalton) templomnál (440-237-6760). Angol nyelvű szolgálatért a szomszédban lévő Bencés Szerzet hívható (216- 721-5300). Korházban a korház-lelkészt, a távol lakók a legközelebbi templomot is hívhatják.

Szeretettel gratulálunk: egyházközségünk új híveinek, Molnár Renáta és Tamás testvéreinknek, akik a tegnap szentségi házasságot kötöttek templomunkban. Isten áldása kísérje és oltalmazza mindvégig házaséletüket.

Jövő vasárnap, szeptember 5-én tartják a szokásos Cserkész Fesztivált.  Programismertető a hirdető táblán látható.

Zsoltár válasz:           KÉRŐ  SZAVUNK  HOZZÁD  SZÁLL,  -   HÍVEIDET  HALLGASD  MEG.
