THE LORD IS PRESENT AMONG US Established in 1860 Saint Paul Church continues today to nourish seeds of faith, as did its namesake the Apostle to the Gentiles, From individual worship in the Adoration Chapel to group celebration at Mass - - we, its members, in word and action give witness to Jesus and hope to serve as an effective sign of the Lord s presence. With Mother Theresa we believe: -Prayer begets faith, faith begets love, and love begets service...- IN SERVICE WE REACH BEYOND OURSELVES As disciples of Jesus we realize a responsibility beyond ourselves. Through service we reach out to bring the love of Christ to the poor, the sick, the hungry, the lonely and the suffering. Our pastor visits hospitals, hospice, nursing homes and private homes ministering through the Sacrament of the Sick, Communion, and words of encouragement. The deacon, pastoral minister, and several Eucharistic Ministers assist the pastor by visiting shut-ins with Communion on a regular basis. A Mass, a Communion Service, or a Prayer Service is celebrated weekly at various senior housing complexes within our parish. The Saint Vincent de Paul Society provides short term emergency food assistance to those in need and helps them discover a means of long term help. COMMITMENT TO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Catholic faith values are encouraged at Saint Paul School, in the Parish School Religion Program (PSR), in youth groups and all parish organizations. Staff and group leaders stand as positive role models who demonstrate faith in action and challenge others to do likewise. Besides hearing faith values explained and challenged in homilies at Mass, St. Paul Parishioners have the opportunity to attend days of recollection which offered by the Holy Name Society and to hear parish-sponsored guest speakers. The weekly bulletin and posted notices publicize educational opportunities available throughout the diocese. In the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) candidates for admission to the Catholic Church, their sponsors, and other parishioners who participate in the group discussion travel a faith journey which increases their understanding of Catholic teachings. While reflecting on the Sunday Readings, RCIA participants grow in understanding the call of Jesus to a loving relationship with God, each other, and all people. | |
