Turn away from sin & be faithful to the gospel!

From the Pastor’s Desk

The inserts this week give more information about programs and liturgical events for Lent.  Lent is often a time when people look to do something more in their spiritual lives.  The inserts give you some suggestions.  Some of these are also on the calendars you received last week.  The flyers are a joint effort of all the Euclid parishes.  Each has a summary of their offerings as well as our own.  We are all supporting one another in this.

Once again Lent is a time for fish fries.  We do not have them here because we have Bingo on Friday nights.  But as last year, we have an agreement with Manor Party Center.  When you go to their fish fry, remember to tell them it is for Saint William parish.  You do not need to be a parishioner, anyone can say they want the dinner to count for us.  Then we will receive a portion of the profit for Saint William’s.  This was very successful last year.  Other parishes do this as well.  So if you want a fish fry dinner, get over there and support Saint William.  There is no additional cost to you.

A letter went out to school families explaining the interviews.  While the interviews are brief, it will take time to get through the whole school community.  This is a required part of the registration process, but I do not want to hold up the process for any family.  As I explained at the last Parent Association meeting, when you call about the interview, your name is put on the list and the registration process will move forward for you, even though it may not be for some time until your appointment actually takes place.

Here is a little factoid which was recently in the news.  I find it fascinating.  A Harris poll done last October found that 25 % of Jews, 8 % of Protestants and 12% of Catholics do not believe in the existence of God.  I must admit I’ve never met what would, for want of a better term, be called a “Catholic atheist”.  One might be dismayed at the prospect.  But I am intrigued by it.  Perhaps they feel Jesus was just a good man, a moralist and a practitioner of his own beliefs, but little more.  It boggles the mind.

May God bless all of you,

                                                                Fr. Leonard Obloy.

IN YOUR CHARITY, please remember the deceased in your prayers:  Robert Schmuck, Wendy Newrones, Rev. Norman Smith

CONGRATULATIONS to parishioner, Bethany Lyn Costello, who received the Sacrament of the Eucharist at St. William Church on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004.  God bless you, Bethany!

THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA will be prayed Monday, Mar. 1 through Tuesday, Mar. 9 in the Mother’s Chapel after the 7:00 and 8:30am weekday Masses and after the 8:00am Sunday Mass along with the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

ST. WILLIAM SCHOOL BAND CONCERT will be Thursday, Mar. 4 at 7:00pm in the Gym.  All are invited to attend.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS:

School Stations of the Cross will be on Friday, Mar. 5 at 1:50pm in church.

“Respect Life” Stations of the Cross will be followed on Friday, Mar. 5 at 7:00pm in the church.  Jesus died once to save us all.  We are called to respect the dignity of human life in all its stages.  Come and celebrate God’s wonderful gift of life with members of the Life Issues Committee.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be in the church from 7:00 to 8:00pm instead of in the Adoration Chapel.  Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament will follow Stations along with Benediction.  The Blessed Sacrament will be returned to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel afterwards.  Our theme for Lent this year is “Return to God—The Time is Now!  Attending and praying the Stations of the Cross are a good way to do this.

THE FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary continues on Saturday, Mar. 6.  To fulfill this devotion one must go to Confession, attend Mass, receive Holy Communion and recite the Rosary.

HEALING PRAYER will be said at 7:00pm in the church next Sunday, Mar. 7th.  Come to have all of your needs prayed for.

YOUTH MINISTRY MINICOURSES meet next Sunday, Mar. 7, 7:15-8:30pm in the Upper Hall for all high school students.  The topic will be:  Dating & Relating to the Opposite Sex.

“LADIES NIGHT OUT”, sponsored by St. William’s Parent Association, will be Tuesday, Mar. 30 at Tizzano’s Party Center, 1361 E. 260 St.  Tickets for this Reverse Raffle are $35 and include dinner, wine/beer/soda & a main board ticket for the $1,000 Grand Prize.  Doors open at 6:00pm and dinner will be served at 7:15pm.  For tickets, call Rose at 216-731-0973.
