Students from
Magnificat
High School
attend a day of prayer and discussion with the Cleveland Carmelite Sisters.

On Tuesday, November 27 two hundred twenty sophomores from Magnificat High School visited the Carmelite Monastery as part of a day-long field trip. Their visit included a presentation by two of the Sisters on Carmelite spirituality and daily life in Cleveland Carmel, and ended with a prayer service with a contemplative flavor.

Before the girls boarded their buses there were a few minutes for them to speak informally with several other Sisters and see those parts of the monastery open to visitors. According to the teachers who accompanied them, this annual event usually provides the students with food for reflection in the days and weeks that follow.

And so they came, quietly, in small groups, and one by one to ask the Lord's blessing during this time of agony and trial ... for we are a people of God, trusting in the power of Love over evil.

Bishop Pilla offered this prayer for peace:

God of perfect peace,
Violence and Cruelty can have no part with you,
May those who are at peace with one another
hold fast to the good will that unites them.
May those who are enemies forget their hatred and be healed.
Amen.

OLA / St. Joseph Center & St. Augustine welcome President George W. Bush

President Bush and a host of government and religious leaders joined together at OLA/St. Joseph Center and St. Augustine Church. OLA/SJC has a ministry to the handicapped. President Bush came to Cleveland to talk about his "faith-based initiative" program.

The president sees religous groups, and Catholics in particular, as being effective in delivery of services to the poor. Recently, he has met with groups of bishops and cardinals on various trips to Missouri and Pennsylvania. Last week, he spoke at the Notre Dame Graduation
